Going Home

Hi Marsha,

I had the following dream. Will you shed some light on it? In real life, I grew up in Kentucky. My aunt and my grandma in my dream were Christian women I loved, but are both now deceased.

SW

I was going home to my old home in Kentucky into a house full of people I didn’t know and my aunt was there, my grandma was there. I began hugging my aunt and told her how much I loved her. I said thank you for being a good cook.

I have to get ready to leave. At first I couldn’t find the bus station. I knew I had to find the bus stop. Along the way I saw an army convoy. There was also a horse and buggy (Amish style) and there was no one to direct me.  I knew I had to find the bus stop.

I went to policemen and asked them where it was, but they ignored me.  Finally, an officer said he would take me there.

Finally I found it. I walk up some stairs. I couldn’t open the door. Someone had to open it for me.

After I was on the bus, I knew I left some luggage there. In it was a pair of orthopedic heels.

Dear SW,

Thanks for giving me this dream. It looks like it’s speaking of you dealing with things of your past.  Let’s look at a breakdown.

Marsha Dunstan

Symbols:

·         Going to my old home in Kentucky – dealing with issues/teachings from the past

·         Aunt- generational issues and/ or things taught from past generations

·         Grandma- generational issues and/ or things taught from past generations

·         Since both of these women were remembered as being “strong Christian women” this might be speaking of spiritual teachings.

·         Good cook- cooking is preparing food (teachings) for others.

·         Bus – large Christian movement or ministry

·         Bus station – a place where a  large Christian movement or ministry can be found

·         Bus stop – place to get on or off

·         Army convoy – soldiers or those who fight the good fight

·         Old horse and buggy – old ways that are no longer relevant

·         Policemen – authority figures whose job is to assist

·         One officer – an authority figure who did assist

·         Up the stairs – going to a higher level

·         Door – opportunity / choice

·         Luggage – things of the past that we carry around with us

·         Orthopedic – assisted in the development of a stance

·         Heels – betrayal

Now, for learning purposes, let’s interpret this dream using three different methods and see how they compare.

1.       The first method is substituting the symbolic meanings into the dream and review the total dream.

2.       The second method is to determine the Focus, Subfocus(es), and the Details of the dream.

3.       The third method is to look at the first couple of sentences of the dream and the last couple of sentences of the dream.  This should summarize the interpretation.

First, let’s substitute the symbolic meanings into the dream and review the total dream.

I was dealing with issues/teachings from the past into a house full of people I didn’t know.

My generational issues and/ or things taught from past generations were there. I began hugging my spiritual teachings and told her how much I loved her. I said thank you for being a good preparer of teachings.

I have to get ready to leave. At first I couldn’t find a place where the large Christian movement or ministry. I knew I had to find the large Christian movement or ministry place to get on or off.Along the way I saw those who fight the good fight. There was also old ways that are no longer relevant and there was no one to direct me.  I knew I had to find the large Christian movement or ministry place to get on or off

I went to people in authority and asked them where it was, but they ignored me.  Finally, an someone in authority said he would take me there.

Finally I found it. I went to a higher level. I couldn’t open the opportunities on my own. Someone had to help me.

After I was on the large Christian movement or ministry, I knew I left things of the past that we carry around with us there. In it was a pair of assisted in the development of a stance betrayal.

Okay….the big picture interpretation of this first method is:

You (the dreamer) are looking back at your past spiritual teachings. You embraced these teachings there. But you have left them, and moved into a larger spiritual movement on a higher level.  By doing so, you’ve left behind stances put upon you. You needed and acquired help in finding the larger spiritual movement.

To paraphrase:

You’ve dropped old spiritual stuff that was put on you in your past and have acquired a higher level of spirituality.

Second, let’s solve this interpretation by determining the Focus, Subfocus(es), and Details.

FOCUS

The Focus of a dream is the main thing, or person, the plot is centered around. Ask “Who or what is the dream centered around?  In this dream, I believe the Focus is the dreamer, himself.

SUB-FOCUS

The Sub-Focus(es) of the dream are problems or issues that the dream is dealing with.  Ask who or what, if it WASN’T in the dream would cause the dream to cease to exist?  In this case, I believe there are two Sub-Focuses.  1. Going home; 2. Finding the Bus Station.

So what does the two Sub-Focuses mean?  Going home might mean dealing with issues/teachings from the past.  Finding a bus station might mean finding a place where a large Christian movement or ministry can be gotten on or off.

Putting just the Focus and Sub-Focuses together, the interpretation might mean:

The dreamer is dealing with teachings from the past and finding another large Christian ministry.

                DETAILS:

All else are details. Describing the embracing of the past teachings, describing that the teachings were given through her family/generationally; describing the difficulty in finding the large Christian ministry; describing the old ways she sees along the way, and the baggage from her past that she’s laid down and left behind her.

The third method is to look at the first couple of sentences of the dream and the last couple of sentences of the dream.  This should summarize the interpretation.

The first couple of sentences of the dream are:

I was going home to my old home in Kentucky into a house full of people I didn’t know and my aunt was there, my grandma was there. I began hugging my aunt and told her how much I loved her.

The last few sentences of the dream are:

Finally I found it. I walk up some stairs. I couldn’t open the door. Someone had to open it for me. After I was on the bus, I knew I left some luggage there. In it was a pair of orthopedic heels.

Let’s look at the interpretive meanings of these sentences.

The dreamer is looking back at past spiritual teachings put upon her by her heritage that has been embraced. But the dreamer has moved to a higher level with the help of others, and has left behind old stuff and baggage from the past.

Interesting.  You may notice I use all three of these interpretive steps. They all say essentially the same thing.

Fun Stuff!
