Dog went Over the Ledge

Dear Marsha,

I’m a 40+ woman with the following dream. I don’t know why I’m dreaming about this dog. I used to have a little black dog years ago, but not now.  Can you give me some insight? It was so real.

I was on a concrete bridge pushing a baby stroller. In the stroller was a little black dog. The dog jumped out of the stroller and up on top of the ledge. Then it went over the ledge.  I cried, “Nooooooo!”

I woke up.  Thanks for your help.

S.J.

Dear S.J.

Dogs in a dream can mean many things, but I believe because you used to have a little black dog as a pet, the dog in this dream is probably representing a “pet” issue or project. Probably one that you are trying to push through.  Let’s look at the symbols more closely.

Concrete = man-made path, (a path that is being followed by human effort – as opposed to                                       God’s direction)

Bridge = a time of transition

Baby = a new work, a new project, or a new beginning

Stroller = a vehicle in which to operate or push the work/project forward

Little black dog = a “pet” issue or “pet” project

Ledge = a place of plummeting or going down

With the symbol meanings, this dream might be saying:

You are on a path, or direction, of your own choosing (you want to do) regarding some kind of situation/work/project. You are in a time of transition while tending to, and trying to push forward this new work (project). This is a “pet” project (one that’s caught your interest). Suddenly, the project goes awry and goes down.  You are upset about the loss.

This might be a work situation, a personal situation, or ministry situation that you are involved in, but it appears it will not work out in the long run.  It also appears that this isn’t necessarily a God-directed activity but more something you are wanting to do (man-made path).  Unfortunately, it won’t last.  This may be speaking of something you have already been involved in, or something you are involved in now, or in the future.

I feel strongly the Lord gave you this dream because He is wanting to love on you about this.  He’s wanting you to know the reason this didn’t work, isn’t because of anything you’ve done wrong, but more because this is NOT something He wants you to do.  He has something else better in store for you.

Old Friend from Childhood

Dear Marsha,

Here’s a dream for you.  I dreamed:

I was with a friend, she was an old friend from childhood. Leslie. I was on the toilet which also had a bed beside it.  She was on it.  I remember thinking she had an awful mess in her home because there was a half-eaten spare-rib and small corn on the cob on the floor next to the toilet.

I remember thinking my house was not nearly as messy as I thought.

She was talking on and on about her mental illness and suffering.

Then, we were walking to her car. She looked at her phone and said, “Friggin Raisin.”  Then I realized she was saying the name of her ex-husband, Reyes. We got in the car and I sat in the back seat. She began texting and driving, so I panicked and told her to please stop.  She refused. I got so afraid I told her to pull over so I could get out. She left me by this blue bridge I could walk over.  I lived just right over that bridge.

What is the meaning of this dream?

Olive

Dear Olive,

Let’s look at some of these symbols.

An old childhood friend = something/someone alongside you in your childhood

Leslie = from the low meadow / remembered (see The Name Book by Dorothy Astoria)

Toilet = a place to get rid of toxins and wastes in your life

Bed = a place of privacy (Micah 2:1); those in relationship with (of like mind with) (Is 57:7)

Meat = mature spiritual learning (Gen 9:3, Heb 5:12-14)

Spare-rib = sparse mature spiritual learning

Corn = amount of God’s seed

Floor = foundation

House = you, your personal life and relationships

Walking = going in the direction of

Car =ministry/work

Phone = spiritual line of communication (uses “air” waves – air=spiritual)

Raisin = dried-up “fruit” (results)

Ex-husband = one used to be in close/intimate covenant with

Reyes = counselor (see The Name Book by Dorothy Astoria)

Back seat = not in control

Texting and driving = carelessly in control

Bridge = a transition period

Blue = depression

Now, just for fun, let’s substitute the symbolic meanings into the dream. This is going to read very sloppy and be difficult.  If you don’t want to go through this process, skip on down to the “paraphrasing”.

I was with something/someone alongside me in my childhood. From the low meadow / remembered. I was on the place to get rid of toxins and wastes in my life which also had a place of privacy/those in relationship with (of like mind with) beside it.  Something/someone alongside me in my childhood was on it.  I remember thinking something/someone alongside me in my childhood had an awful mess in the home because there was sparse mature spiritual learning and small amount of God’s seed on the foundation next to a place to get rid of toxins and wastes in my life.

I remember thinking my personal life and relationships was not nearly as messy as I thought.

Something/someone alongside me in my childhood was talking on and on about something/someone alongside me in my childhood’s mental illness and suffering.

Then, something/someone alongside me in my childhood and I were going in the direction of something/someone alongside me in my childhood work. Something/someone alongside me in my childhood looked at something/someone alongside me in my childhood spiritual line of communication and said, dried-up results.  Then I realized something/someone alongside me in my childhood was saying the name of one used to be in close/intimate covenant with something/someone alongside me in my childhood. I sat not in control. Something/someone alongside me in my childhood began carelessly in control, so I panicked and told to please stop.  Something/someone alongside me in my childhood refused. I got so afraid I told her to pull over so I could get out. She left me by this depression transition period I could walk over.  I lived just right over that transition period.

To paraphrase this, this interpretation might be saying:

You are being “visited” by an “old friend from childhood (memories of suffering leading to depression). This happens while you are in a place of rest (bed) and a place of getting rid of toxic/wasteful things (toilet) from your past.  You realize this brings remembrances of mess and sparseness of the “meaty” teachings (spare-rib half-eaten) of Jesus and it brings small amounts of things to grow on (seed=corn).  You begin to believe your current situation is not as bad as you thought when you compare it to the past. You are in the back seat (not actively choosing this direction).  You dislike the way this is going, so you “get off the ride”. You are left in a depressing transition time but know that you just need to walk through it.

A more simple paraphrase might be:

You are remembering suffering from your childhood and how you didn’t get strong teachings of Jesus.  In looking back, you realize your current situation is not as bad as you thought.  It’s depressing to think back on these things and it puts you in a depression for a time until you can drop it again.

Cruise in a light blue dress

Marsha,

I’d like to send you another dream.

Thankx,
DY

Hello DY,
I’m glad you sent this dream.  I want to remind the readers that you sent the last dream also that was very long (seven scenes) titled: Walk Beyond Closed City.  These two dreams appear to be very different, but when broken down and interpreted are really pretty much the same dream.  Interesting, huh?
I thought this would be a great follow-up to the long dream previously posted.  So here goes.
Marsha

Dream:
I was going on a cruise by myself.  On my way to the ship I crossed over a high bridge.  Hung from the bridge was a VERY LONG, light blue dress.  It was simply but formal.  I knew it was mine.  It rained and the dress got wet.  The bottom of it reached a river that turned brown from the rain so the very bottom of the dress got dirty.  As I entered the ship the dress was wrinkled.  I was excited and anxious to get to my cabin but the doors I needed to enter were all closed.  They were like elevator doors. As they opened there was an elderly couple there.  I let them go first.  I was anxious but patient.  As I entered the doorway I realized I forgot my things-dress, purse, cruise ticket.  I went back and it was there.  I explained to a young woman that my dress got wet.

Marsha here.  I’m going to restate the dream inserting some of the symbol meanings:
I was going on a cruise by myself (a journey moving with the flow of the Lord you are taking alone) On my way to the ship (large ministry of God)  I crossed over a high bridge (high in the spirit time of transition). Hung from the bridge (during this transition period waiting for you) was a VERY LONG (of great magnitude), light blue (man’s spirit) dress (defines who you are).  It was simply but formal (of the Lord without pretense).  I knew it was mine.  It rained  (trials came) and the dress got wet (your spirit was affected by the trials).  The bottom of it reached a river that turned brown from the rain (affected by a movement of God that turned towards humanity / or away from God)  so the very bottom of the dress got dirty (this affected your spirit causing it to question God).  As I entered the ship the dress was wrinkled (spirit walk needed smoothing out).  I was excited and anxious to get to my cabin (excited to find your place in God’s large ministry) but the doors (opportunities)I needed to enter were all closed.  They were like elevator doors (opportunities to rise to a higher level).As they opened there was an elderly couple there (couple of people with God’s maturity and wisdom).  I let them go first.  I was anxious but patient.  As I entered the doorway I realized I forgot my things-dress, purse, cruise ticket (feel you are not prepared).  I went back and it was there (trying to become prepared).  I explained to a young woman that my dress got wet (trying to justify/explain your past trials).
Now, to paraphrase the meanings, I believe this is a summary of the dream’s meaning. This dream is the same as the first, larger dream.
While you are on a spiritual journey to grow and to prepare you for a place in God’s large ministry, you encounter trials that affect you deeply, even affecting your spirit.  It causes you to go back (or look back at such things as finances (purse) and “who you are in Christ” (dress) and whether you have God’s permission to go forth (cruise ticket).   You do it, but feel you need to justify some of your past to others.
 Note: this is very common to have many dreams, seemingly different, but they are all saying the same thing.  God keeps trying to get the message into us.  Sometimes (especially if you are me) it takes awhile.
Keep dreaming!
Marsha
